How to be anti-work with debt?

I was fired from a job in September. I took it as an opportunity to focus on my art. I've been driving for Uber and Lyft to pay my bills. They were already behind because my last job paid poverty wages. Honestly my income has improved with the gig work but I'm still trying to catch up on $1,000 of past due bills on top of the regular monthly payments. Two of those bills have already hit my credit. This is the first time I've ever had missed payments in my credit history. I think I am coming to terms with that being okay and that I don't really want new debt anyway.
