just started a job at a cool funky antique mall store that i was so excited for but quit after 1 day because it was NUTS. here’s a roundup of shit coworkers did
-was asked why i’m still masked (i’m immunocompromised) and when i’d be taking it off
-i’m trans and have a unique name, i was asked what my birth name is and when i said that’s not something i share, was pressed about it even more by both coworkers and vendors
-was told to “keep my mouth shut” if anyone says anything offensive or bigoted
-was warned about a vendor who invites all the female workers to his studio, gives them wine, and basically sexually assaults them. they then said “maybe it’s a cultural difference he’s from india”
-told me about someone else who worked 1 day and quit and mocked that person for “not wanting to work, no one wants to work anymore blah blah blah”
-one of them went on a rant about how “unhoused people have all the privilege and cops won’t do anything about them”
-mocked people who file sexual harassment reports in the workplace
there’s even more random little racist, uppity, transphobic garbage that happened that’s more than i want to type but. yeah this was day 1. i was baffled. the owner asked me why i’m quitting to “help her improve the workplace” but i’m not sure about doing the emotional unpaid labour to tell her how to fix this now lol
