Restaurant owner includes herself in Secret Santa gift exchange.

I gave my friend’s daughter a ride to the restaurant where she works, and she came out of the house with a big present. I asked how much they were supposed to spend on Secret Santa gifts and she said $25. That seems like a lot for restaurant workers. Then she told me she’d picked the owner’s name! She was nervous about getting the perfect gift and worried that it wasn’t wrapped attractively enough—everything had to be perfect for the boss—and she ended up spending about fifty bucks! She’s just a teenager, waiting tables to earn money for a car, so this was unnecessary stress. Shouldn’t a gift exchange stay between people on the same employment level? And is $25 too much? I think it should be closer to $10.
