My previous job let me go on October 21 this year after working there for 8 months (remotely). My work would go unreviewed for 3 weeks at a time, and never approved in time to post for marketing purposes.
I filed for unemployment after 2 weeks of being out of work and stayed my reason being “lack of work”. My reasoning being:
- My work not being reviewed in a timely manner
- My boss was never online, my other boss ignored my Slack messages
- They didn’t rehire for the position
- They didn’t state a reason for termination on my exit letter (which I requested to cancel a Christmas vacation to Mexico so I could pay my rent)
- Boss said in a RECORDED Zoom meeting “I know I’m the reason things are held up, but I shouldn’t be the reason things aren’t getting done”
- The week before I was let go, I stated my concerns about my job position to a trusted administrator in the company and felt heard by them
- An hour before I was let go via phone call, I was told we would discuss my concerns “in next week’s Zoom meeting” which I was told week after week despite these meetings always being canceled
They had papers sent to me from the Dept of Labor saying my performance was the reason for my termination. They want me to repay my $1200 from unemployment that I’ve used to buy new interview/work clothes, pay my rent, and feed myself. Disgusting corporate goblins.
Has anyone ever dealt with this before? Do I sound sane in my reasoning? I answered the DOL’s papers and I hope I don’t have to repay that money.
Edit to add: I worked the entire time on personal computers. I had to buy a new computer ($900) while working for them because my personal died. I didn’t expense it so I could keep it, but I spent money to do this job. They also had me use my personal Adobe subscription.
