I’m an AM (Area Manager). Our company has a team of 16 of us throughout the country. We used to be managed by the VP of Biz Dev. Then one morning we are all called to a Teams meeting and told by the President that the VP is no longer our boss and the Director of Operations will be taking over. Literally no notice or transition. The VP and are friends and he still works for the company. It’s been very odd.
The Dir starts off by introducing himself. He has 0 experience doing what we do (rare for our industry, managers usually have mandatory experience in the field). He explains that he’s been a mid to upper level manager his whole career and that he is “different” he adds that he will never bother us or micromanage and that he is really here to support us.
Okay, will give him a chance. Most of us work/produce the best on our own. In the <1m he has been in charge he has emailed and called us more than our previous boss did in 10m. Not only does he contact us at least once a day, but he also criticizes our use of Salesforce including what time of day we input activity. From his most recent email “I want to start off by saying I am not accusing any of you, but when I look at all your salesforce activities, many of you go hours or even a whole day without entering any activities. You can imagine how it looks to me, like you may not be working but I know that’s not true”
We’re AMs, one of the perks is accomplishing work when we want to and when we think it’s effective, not 9-5 M-F
