Boss and coworkers out of office leaving me alone to handle all tech support calls. I’m not tech support. I’m a WFH software engineer.

I don’t mind handling tech support calls regarding our software and software related issues since I know the software inside and out… But 99% of our tech support calls are hardware related – need new printers, need new kiosks, need to replace a screw on a machine… etc etc… I literally don’t know how to help these people cause I don’t work in those departments and don’t have the knowledge to assist… I’m happy with my job and get paid really well but I feel overwhelmed cause as someone with social anxiety, this is too much human interaction for me. And some customers are just really mean… today I started getting phone calls since 6am and I don’t start until 10am. Lol… Of course, my baby boomer boss thinks I should be more of a team player but I told him that I already am by doing my job so…

Of course, my baby boomer boss thinks I should be more of a team player but I told him that I already am by doing my job so no one else has to pick up after me… advised him to hire more hardware support staff or just pay me more and train me so I can do both. You want me to do the job of two people? Pay me like I’m two people.
