Alright for context, Im 16 and started working at a small pizza joint back in early October. I put in my application and was interviewed the same minute i put in my application. (I was interviewed outside of the building) I was accepted on the spot!
I was extremely excited since i used to go to this joint ever since i was a little kid. Their pinball machine was always fun and could even win free bread if you win a certain color!
Anyways, First day was actually pretty bad. I got there, Boss handed me a packet of paperwork to fill out; which i had. But once i finished, she had left?? Having zero experience in this work environment, no one seemed to take any initiative to notice my being there, as well as even think to train/ teach me.
While im not going to stand there uselessly, i walked up to an employee to show what i had to do. And they seemed to have been sort of clueless in showing me what to do, but nevertheless she showed me how to do a couple small things while mumbling immensely.
(Note: Mind you this employee who we will call A was verbally fighting with the staff manager to the point customers were turning heads.)
After that small experience, i had to have several others at least tried to show me how to do some things, but each one had a different method making work slightly more confusing and difficult.
But i just blew off this small negative experience not thinking much of it!
Next experience was when i had done over 30 sheet outs (Flattening dough), which i had already put into the walk-in fridge. Finishing the last stack, the staff manager comes over and automatically assumes im still stuck on one single stack. He then proceeds to “reteach” his way of sheets, while telling “im working too slow when he already finished making 3 pizzas”. While i stood there unbeknownst of what to say..
I also put this aside but i felt this might affect another issue. Boy oh boy…
During closing hours, i had been sweeping up and over heard the staff manager talking absolute shit about how slow i am and how he prefers anyone else instead of me to A. I was upset and angry that this is being gossiped around and not being directly communicated to me ever since that sheet out incident. I worked even harder and tried to be faster while still putting quality. (which i regret)
I then texted the staff manager letting him know i overheard that he had been talking about someone being a slow worker and if it had been about me i would love some critical input so i can become better at my job and be more efficient.
Staff Manager: “Everything is ok.”
Well, okay then i let that off assuming it was about a former employee..
Good thing a different employee who i had befriended and he had complete connections with staff manager and boss. Eventually i found out it had be about me. The staff manager has been telling my boss how bad of a worker i was, of-course she believed him. But words were twisted up and its why my hours seemed to have shortened and never got shifts anymore after these incidents. Although every other employee said otherwise.
I had called my boss during a break letting her know everything. Then i started letting her know that he had left a blunt in the kitchen and smokes weed right behind the door. As well as intimate relationships, he and A had displayed publicly, yes the same ones who were arguing.. Turns out she wasn’t even allowed to work same shifts with the staff manager!! Ofcourse i had asked sincerely to train me the following Saturday and that my name would not be brought up regarding the call, so i trusted her word..
I awaited any messages, i felt pretty scared of my manager because he can get pretty vocally degrading. But nothing. (Boss had said she works Saturdays 3-5pm. So i automatically assumed she would let me know since i was also scheduled on Saturday, it couldn’t be difficult to just change up hours so i could work with her the following Saturday.)
End Note: I’ll get pictures of everything as well as screenshots! But second part of this will be sent if people are curious. I really just needed to vent this out. I spent a-lot of energy and effort working at this joint. I really only felt my work being unappreciated at this short staffed business. Especially thought the employers cared more.
