Offensive Christmas Bonus
I work for a major Canadian airline, my job basically entails taking abuse from guests all day everyday and occasionally booking flights for little old ladies who aren’t very good with a computer. (always the highlight of my days)
Yesterday we received an email from our CEO, it read as follows…
We understand the many pressures our teams have experienced in 2022, and felt it was important to wrap up this challenging year with a small gesture of holiday spirit and a sincere thank you. You will be receiving a gift card from “popular food courier service” today that can be redeemed on the “popular couriers” app as a small holiday thank you for your unwavering dedication and resilience.
We look forward to renewed excitement in 2023 and building back stronger together.
Happy Holidays
Your Executive Committee,
what a lovely gesture hey, I was expecting nothing tbh so a free meal is always better than nothing!
But then the follow up email from “popular food courier service” came in containing a gift card for $10, and no I didn’t miss a zero. For our “unwavering dedication and resilience” 10 dollars is what this company thinks we are worth at Christmas time. At a time when people are already struggling to stay afloat and feed their families due to record inflation, this honestly feels like a slap in the face. If I wasn’t one of those very people I mentioned who are struggling to support my family right now and keep a roof over my head I would of quit my job on the spot.
I sincerely hope this post somehow makes it back to our executive committee on the off chance that they will recognize the significant error of judgement made by issuing this offensive “gesture of holiday spirit”
