Just a quick little holiday anecdote:
My company decided that this year we can't afford holiday bonuses, party, or gifts of any nature for local branch level employees even though we have record sales this year. They allege that we have just started “turning a profit” and aren't able to put it into holiday expenses, even though I suspect execs & corporate level employees got a nice spiff of sorts.
I was asked today if I wanted to participate in the office's white elephant gift exchange, I told them I unfortunately didn't turn a profit last month so i'm not able to afford to participate 🙂
