So, I have been working for an employer for a while now. I was hired with the promise of telework. All the (spoken) language conveyed this. I had been doing telework, quite happily. Recently I was changed to an on site position.
(The training they had us do? The teachers were remoting in. But not us. Which… was beyond asinine. Some of it was better done in person, but it would have been best if we did most of it WFH then came in for the week of OJT that was best done in person)
They get 90 days (my contract states they cannot move me out of the department I was hired for for longer than 90 days). If I am not put back on telework by the end of that?
I fucking quit. No holds barred. And on my exit interview I will cite the blatant lies, deception, and low pay as my reason for leaving.
I've already started to look for work elsewhere, and if I find something better before my 90 days are up? I'm out like the Kool-Aid man!
Employers: If you hire for teleworkers, you're going to get people who expect you to follow through. If you need people for in office work (the job I was transferred to genuinely needs people on site) then hire on the premise of in office work. Don't go all shocked pikachu when people quit en masse when you shift them to on site or hybrid.
