Lead on After an Interview

I interviewed for this company and the entire process went exceptionally well. The interviewer told me at the end of each round that they would be pushing me to the next round, which I loved knowing the immediate response. I made it to the last round which required putting together a presentation. I spent many hours on this, as I wanted the job. Three days went by, then a week. No answer. At two weeks, I sent a follow up email, which I was told that the hiring manager was on vacation. It seemed a bit strange that the hiring manager didn’t mention to me in the interview that he was going on vacation and the process might take longer, but I was naïve.

After four weeks went by, I accepted that I was ghosted.

At week six, HR followed up and let me know I would receive an answer by the end of the week. Friday came and went, and I still had no answer.

I finally reached out a few days later and let HR know I was no longer interested. I received a gaslit type of response telling me that they couldn’t control that the hiring manager was on vacation and the team also had “staffing changes.” I know things happen, but the lack of communication was extremely frustrating, especially since I invested so much time in the interview. I’m glad I dodged a bullet though.
