Getting paid less than coworker, brought to managers attention, he lowered everyone’s pay

This happened at my sisters place of work. A coworker showed her what she was getting paid and it was $15/hr when my sister was getting paid $12/hr. They started at the same time, had the same experience and everything. She asked her manager why she was getting paid less than her coworker without giving the name away. This happened at my sisters place of work.

A coworker showed her what she was getting paid and it was $15/hr when my sister was getting paid $12/hr. They started at the same time, had the same experience and everything. She asked her manager why she was getting paid less than her coworker without giving the name away.

The manager said in order to look into it, he would need the name of who she was getting paid less than. She reluctantly gave it to him. 2 weeks go by and she hears nothing from him.

Yesterday, the manager calls a meeting with her crew and goes on to say that he is bumping everyone down $3 because of a “payroll issue” that wasn’t caught until now. He made everyone sign a form saying they will work for $12/hr. When they got hired, they also signed a contract that they would work for $12/hr but were given $15 instead.

My sister is friends with the supervisor who that manager oversees, and she told my sister that the manager knew about this issue and never fixed it until she brought it up.

I know they all signed for $12/hr initially but isn’t it kind of shitty that the manager decides to drop people’s pay instead of fixing the 2-3 employees who were at $12? Especially because he knew about the error and just didn’t fix it until someone caught it.
