This could be the wrong place to post this but I need some advice. I started a job in finance and accounting about a year ago. The company has two owners with a 75/25 split. 75 manages the back office duties while 25 handles most if not all of the daily operations. For the last 7 months I have been in the middle of a war between the both of them. 25 wants full control, so he has met with lawyers and accountants to put a proposal together to create a deal to buy/sell one another the various interests they are partners in. 75 has balked at the offer and 25 plans to start fresh on his own. No sale. No buyout. Just quits company A and either starts B or uses previously owned C or D. I work for company A and he has asked me to leave with him. I do have a non compete agreement which is a slight problem. Both owners are great in their own ways, but they have placed me in the middle of their toxic fight and it is driving me insane. I would be fine working for either, but 25 seems to value me enough to ask for me to stay. He has offered almost 50% raise and other benefits. With my non-compete, what are my options here? I presume no matter which “side” I choose it will be messy, but can 75 come after me due to my non-compete? Do I start shopping for a new job? This whole situation has been stressing me out for 6 months and I have no idea what to do. Thoughts? Questions?
