There are 3 people in my team plus our manager
I am taking a 2 week vacation during the 2nd and 3rd week of Jan.
I applied for time off in June, this year and informed my manager immediately
In July, coworker “Tim” applies for time off for the 3rd and 4th week of Dec
She (manager) approved both in August
In September, coworker “Ash” informs manager that she's taking time off in the 1st and 2nd week of jan. Manager approves
In October/November she handed me 2 difficult projects. Both projects would be at the deliverables stage during my vacation.
I reminded her of my vacation time, and she said she'd handle it.
Which was shocking to me since she only delegates never designs or executes. So I go this in writing
This week she assigned Ash a new project . Ash reminds manager of her time off. Manager asks her who will handle the project and asks me . I remind her that I would also be on vacation in Jan and she has to work on the deliverables
She apparently thought that I would finish the work before going on vacation. Except the data required to start the deliverables will only come on 9th
She then tells us her brilliant idea. Work for a few hours here and there during our vacation even the VP had to do this
We tell her no.
She tells us that we'll have to cancel our vacation until we complete the work
We tell her no.
Apparently, she also told Tim last week, he couldn't take 2 weeks off because she's taking next week off
She canceled everyones time off approval
I think since she canceled her whole teams leave at once, it got flagged. The director for our division (VPs manager) had a meeting with all of us one on one
He gave us approval. He told manager that people from a different team would help her with the projects for the time being and she'll have to share commission from the projects.
The other team would only help and not do the work. She would have to make the design, they'll just execute it.
So we got our time off, she'll have to both do the work and loose out on her commission.
Tl;dr
Manager tried to cancel leave because she would have to do the work that she commissioned. Higher up intervenes, she looses out on her commission and still has to work
