How to Not Work?

I've seen many comments where people say that they just don't work or they've dropped out, but how do you survive? What are some strategies or ways that people get food and a place to live or bring in money without working? Can we build a list of strategies for people who want out of the rat race? I'm exhausted and can't take the 7-6 workday (commute, plus unpaid lunch) with no time left or flexibility to live how I want, plus after all that work I have less money now then when I started after all the expenses. The only way I've found out of the system is to work for myself as a contractor on a project basis and try to make enough to survive since I have a wife and young kid, but I can't seem to get enough projects to cover ever increasing rents… Otherwise moving…

The only way I've found out of the system is to work for myself as a contractor on a project basis and try to make enough to survive since I have a wife and young kid, but I can't seem to get enough projects to cover ever increasing rents… Otherwise moving back in with the family if they'll take you seems next best way to reduce costs or having tons of roommates, then trying to get food stamps as well.

What were your strategies to break out and break free of work?
