Had a manager yell and cuss at me, then they bitched and moaned about there being “half a million missing” in his department so “that’s why he yelled”…

Some context: I work in a large retail store that has a tire service center, which is where I work. During winter we always get slammed with work because snow means new tires and also dead batteries, and more flat tires, more receiving stuff… etc, so we're always super busy with like four people working at any given time. Anyways, the manager in question is someone who oversees another department, either front end or merchandising (idk specifically but I honestly don't care about it), so they have to do all their stuff and worry about whatever's going on. So, busy day today and they were short on people, like always, and that lead to them needing help with pushing carts. I don't MIND helping that area out (even though I don't think we should), but only when we don't have work to do. Today we had about 60 or so…

Today we had about 60 or so tires to put in as having been received, tag them with people's info for who ordered them, then stock everything out after calling said people. We also had a pallet full of vehicle batteries to stock too, like three and a half layers of them. Normally, this would be easy peasy, but working on three cars at once all day makes it so we can only do it in between what's going on.

Manager of wherever comes out while me and one of my coworkers were working on a car, and tells us that we NEED to go out and push carts “now.” Only had the two of us working on the car, as the other two were dealing with people at the desk or trying to keep up with the stuff we received, or even helping other areas too because they asked.

I tell him that we have a lot to do, and there's only two of us, on top of having all of this work to do, and he just snapped. Started off by yelling and saying “You need to go push the carts right fucking now!” and started talking about how he was “sick and tired of [me] already arguing with him about everything” (I don't think I've talked to him much before? Dude doesn't oversee my area and we have our own manager lol) and just kept going on. Moment I heard him start cussing, I didn't really care about whatever he was pissed about because that's some grade A bullshit. I can see why they're short staffed, because if this dickwad is managing people they probably got fed up with him.

After a bit I told him that I'm not doing that, again because of the work we needed to do, then told him that yelling and cussing at me wasn't respectful towards me nor fair at all. Dunno what switch flipped in his head but he stopped being an ass immediately, then started making up excuses for himself. One of which was that he was stressed because they were doing audits and were missing “half a million dollars” in their area… only thing that affects is their big chunky bonus, because the only thing we get is a shitty 2% raise every year. With inflation, that's basically a pay cut. On top of them cutting hours and firing people to try and meet their quota, it's very obvious that he was only shitty because he wouldn't make a lot of money.

Basically it spiraled into him going “oh I'm sorry for yelling at you I have a lot going on, you know how it is” and “man to man, we should shake hands and put this behind us” to try and ease it over.

I'm pretty sure he just didn't want to get reported for being an ass to me, and to our department. Come tomorrow I'm gonna report it to the person who owns the store and see if anything comes of it, and if that doesn't do anything at all then I'm just gonna look for another job. Bonus is that I had witnesses, people near the shop door and my coworker, so it's up to head honcho now I guess??

all in all it's been a pretty shit day and I hate living in America right now
