I’m sick and tired of getting hired for teaching jobs only knowing LAST YEARS salaries. The only time they are upfront about salary is AFTER the interview, once we get an “offer.”
Why the hell do you expect us to apply for and interview for jobs without knowing an inkling about our compensation!?!
We already go a month or two working without pay in the beginning of the year. Guessing pay structure on top of that based on previous years salaries is not okay.
I’m getting emails for job fairs and they say things “competitive salaries.” I know in my frustration I’m being repetitive, but if it’s so competitive, then why won’t you tell us what it is?
I DO NOT WANT TO SIGN A YEAR LONG CONTRACT WITH SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT TELL ME HOW MUCH MONEY I WILL BE MAKING.
AGAIN, “I DID NOT SIGN A VOW OF POVERTY WHEN I BECAME A TEACHER.”
Quit hiding our compensation.
For those interested in how much teachers make near you, type your local ISD name and “teacher pay scale” into Google.
This is the beginning of the hiring season for the 2022-2023 school year and while they expect us to be applying for positions and accepting YEAR LONG contracts. Districts and administration do not respect us enough to let us know ahead of time what we will be making that year?
I’m not seeing teacher salaries published in districts near me. This is normalized. This is not the first time I’ve felt frustrated that I’m interviewing to work at places not knowing if I’ll make enough to pay my bills.
Our applications are LONG. Our interviews are lengthy. We work LONG days and nights once we are hired. We deserve, just like everyone else, to know how much we will be compensated. Hiding it is dishonest.
That’s not okay. We have to quit letting them use our love of teaching against us.
We are educators, we are valuable, we deserve transparency, we deserve a living wage.
