In the past four months of being a welder fabricator, I have cut my leg open with an electric grinder needing 5 stitches. Taken out one of my front teeth dropping a big bolt onto my face, and today I slit my wrist open on some thin gauge steel needing 17 stitches. I lost a hell of a lot of blood and needed an ambulance and paramedics to sort me out. I got very lucky for it not to have been worse. The doctor said it looked like a shark bite.
I’m taking this as my last strike to get out of this industry and the dangers it brings with it. Every job I’ve had has been lacking on safety in one way or another and I’ve finally realised that the company doesn’t care about you risking your body or life every day.
Any ideas what I can look into doing? I want a career change, something that will allow me to live to see my family grow.
