If you want cheap rent and live alone, look for private sector student housing.

TL;DR: I'm paying $350 a month, all utilities included, within walking distance of a college campus. When colleges closed down early in the pandemic, private sector student housing lost most of their tenants. To make matters worse, there was a MASSIVE expansion in online college programs, which means private sector student housing never filled back up, even after the colleges reopened. It's gotten to the point where the rent is cheaper, and you don't even have to be a student at most of these places. Some of them are even renting to people with criminal convictions. It's gotten that bad, and they're desperate to fill up rooms. If you live alone, don't mind roommates, and want cheap rent, then take a look at student housing. A lot of the private sector student housing is being absolutely ravaged by pandemic changes.
