Got fired from a job I had worked fewer than 8 days because I decided to do the right thing and protect my coworkers from a disease I believed I had. It was around Christmas and all the clinics were closed I couldn’t get tested until Wednesday. The doctor ordered me to quarantine for 2-4 weeks. They told me I couldn’t do that because they are no valid absences even though they told me to go home and get tested last Monday. Keep in mind this is a company that works with seniors in senior living facilities for physical therapy purposes. So what the fuck should I have done? Lie to keep my job and potentially infect people in a company who cares so much about making seniors live dignified lives. Hell I just work IT so I’m not in the field, but what if a new hire in the field experienced this? Knowing my story would they do the right thing?
To top it all off, I got fired on Thursday. On Friday I went to hospital and tested positive for COVID, so it is entirely likely that I had both Mpox and and COVID the last few weeks. They also want me to box up and send my equipment back despite my house being under quarantine, and despite it not being my job to sanitize it.
