Help your team find their harmony and recognize that asking for 100% effort 100% of the time is an easy way to burn others out.
Instead, recognize that there are waning and heavy periods at work. Ask for your team’s 70% effort for 90% of the time, and only draw out that 100% effort for that 10% that requires it.
Is this a level of, “C’s get degrees” mentality? Absolutely. Not everyone has the ability to be an A+ student at all moments, as we are all complicated individuals with lives. However, if the job description is being fulfilled that is OK! Those that want to use their energy to give 100% at all times can still do that, but it’s up to you as a leader to help them not burn out. And just because they have that energy to go 100% more often than others, doesn’t make them the model or ideal employee.
