Quitting the service industry after constant abuse caused by tipping culture

I work in my city’s entertainment district in a venue that is connected to 11 others and last night was an absolute shit show. They sold tickets for New Years that included varying levels of drink packages, unlimited until midnight. Well around 11 there was a group of people from Kansas that was causing issues with another table as they were stealing seats and even an order of wings from other tables. After being made aware of the situation, I approached them and asked them to leave, but said I would not be removing their wristbands if they wanted to visit another venue. After being made aware of the situation, I approached them and asked them to leave, but said I would not be removing their wristbands if they wanted to visit another venue.

This didn’t sit well with them who immediately began saying I had a problem with them because they were from Kansas (I couldn’t care less). As they were getting up to leave, this guy sucker punches me which causes me to fall to the ground. I took a couple kicks to the side before two of them grab my arms and the guy squats over my face and rips ass like I almost threw up. This all happened in under a minute and it was so packed in there my coworkers weren’t able to catch up with the group until they had dispersed into the crowd. We told security who is going to review the surveillance and see if we can identify them, but it would be difficult since they didn’t have a tab and the only time they would have shown ID was when showing ticket for wristband.

Those of us who work in this industry are so blind to it, because we make a lot in tips, but our bosses don’t give a dang about us and pay us literal pennies (I made 2.13 an hour) and pass the duty of paying us on to the customer. Who is free to stiff us and apparently abuse us as well.
