Consultant Fee Question

So, Friday is my last day with my company after over a year of wearing many hats for them. I literally hold the keys to all the systems and knowledge. I gave them over a months notice to find a suitable replacement, but they waited until the last second. This person will have 2 days with me. My employer, seems to be under the impression I’m going to happily work for free during my 10 day vacation between jobs. I have seen on here, suggestions to send them an invoice for the consultant fee. I know I should charge roughly 3x my current salary, but do I give it to them before I leave and before they get a chance to ask anything of me? Or do I wait until after I’ve provided my assistance and invoice them then? Im worried they’ll just use me and then toss the invoice.…
