I’m just ranting into the ether, come along with me, maybe you will learn something from my troubles.
I bet you’ve heard this statement before and even if the situation is a good one, please be careful.
Now if you’re bringing in the big bucks, then maybe the risk is worth the reward.
However, I’m talking about normal jobs, hourly work, making about 20-21 bucks an hour, no benefits, but the work isn’t that bad.
At first the job wasn’t something super stressful, office administrative work. But now I’ve been here almost 2 years, done A LOT, and before I was at 18/h but I got a bump start of 2022. So naturally you wanna be compensated more because you’ve been here longer and good to the company, your family who is your boss got you the job and, you’ve been told (by the owner, not my family) that you helped save the company during dire Covid times. I do a lot of the hiring and this is food service so employee turnover and getting new people is a huge deal. Along with a bunch of odd tasks, projects, paperwork, and data entry.
Well this is the red thread, I pretty much want to walk out the door and quit immediately. Reset my laptop and never look back. I’m not happy with how things haven’t increased and with some pretty quick changes in the past few months, and being asked to do things outside of the job description. *with no pay increase or discussions about it, owner “we have opportunities here”
This is all from the owner, not my family who is actually my boss and hired me. They are looking for a new job after 20+ years because of these dumb moves/changes. The owner is a piece of
BUT I CANT SCORCH EARTH. If I left like I wanted to it would really look bad for my family member, they’d be my actual reference and would never say something bad about me, and it’s not just me, my coworker said he would do the same-thing but because my family is such an awesome person he’s riding out this job till he gets hired at a new one. This job isn’t backbreaking, intense, or actually stressful. It’s working on the office side of a restaurant chain.
But again I state that because I work with family I’m in a rock and a hard spot, and instead of being able to give the Royal middle finger and just walk. Now I have to bide my time while trying to find other work. Which is hard to interview for when your schedule is 8-5.
So I guess that sums up my point, I feel like I’m trapped when really I want to put my foot down and say no, screw you, everyone hates you, and you’re a terrible business owner, the changes you are making are not original at all, your ideas are dumb, if people knew payroll (which I do) half of them + would quit the next day, you’ve been lying since the start and acting like a nice guy, everyone talks behind your back
Just don’t do it, unless you really need to, but be careful when with family
Cheers
