I gave my two-weeks in to a company in New York City that got me sick with COVID twice within the few months I worked there. During my second infection, I got fed up and gave my manager a two-weeks notice on December 9th.
She begged me to stay for two more weeks and because I wanted to leave on good terms, I stayed. She claimed that she'll look for someone else and in the meantime, if I need work after leaving, I can “put in some hours”. I was like “okay fine I'll let you know”. I took this as a sign that we were mutual as she “liked me” during my time there and gave me a glowing performance review. I kept all of my work tip-top so my department isn't behind on anything.
Come today, where tomorrow's my last day, I inform her that I will be leaving officially as agreed upon. She started flipping out saying “that's not what you said last time. You agreed to stay part-time after this week” and I told her to stop gaslighting me because I agreed to nothing and there wasn't any contract saying so. She was pissed big-time and didn't respond to further communication kindly.
I'm now worried because she agreed to be my reference during my notice period and this disagreement will earn me a bad reference at my next place since I already applied with her listed. I have my performance review saved as well as recent positive communication in case she slanders me as retaliation.
What should I do if that's the case? Idgaf about the company but moreso any attempts to paint me in a bad light.
