My supervisor turned in my resignation letter for me after she shopped in my desk

A co-worker and I talked about my recent departure from my job. What happened was I worked in diversity part-time. I was tasked with assisting a co-worker of color after they had poor work performance. They improved and everyone was happy with my contributions, it was wonderful. However, when we discussed workplace culture, I brought up how this space was overly judgmental and didn’t equip employees with a chance to succeed. I mentioned the employee struggling and highlighted ways that our organization set him up for failure. I asked if the employee would still be here if I didn’t help, and they said yes. They told me someone else would’ve gotten the employee on track and I was being dramatic. A co-worker and I talked about my recent departure from my job. What happened was I worked in diversity part-time. I also had a conversation with my supervisor and told her that I didn’t feel as excited now that I’m at the job because of how toxic the culture was. Eventually, things went south with my boss. She and I had friction because I did a presentation and mentioned her, saying I wasn’t sure if everyone knew who she was. She then pulled me aside to tell me about work performance issues that she had with me, saying that she didn’t know what I could do to show her I could handle the responsibilities. These were things like not turning the light off when I left, pettiness. I wrote a resignation letter that I planned to give my supervisor when she came back from cancer treatment. However, she snooped in my desk and turned it in for em. I got a call and was told she turned it in to HR, they accepted my resignation, and that I needed to turn my equipment in. I wanted to sue her for turning in my resignation letter and snooping through my stuff. I told this to my friend and former co-worker(who I helped with work performance). He said that I can’t sue because it’s not illegal for a supervisor to go into their employee’s desk, especially because it’s the school’s property. He’s also told me that I shouldn’t have mentioned him and them not helping him succeed, since that issue was resolved and she was affirmed for her work. He said that if I needed this job, I should have rode the momentum form helping him and been more diplomatic. He said a lawsuit would end in me wasting time, money, and being humiliated by a decisive defeat in court.
