I work in an office that has been adamant on having people in the building right all the way back from the beginning of covid. As a a result the rate of illness in the office has been high, like crazy high, at one point 60% of staff were off sick.
They follow the laws (UK) but the laws are daft, we have people positive with covid working a few metres away from immunocompromised people but it’s ok because they’re wearing a face a mask. Credit to my work they have spent a lot of money on hand sanitizer, anti-bac wipes and cleaners coming in twice a day but it’s not stopped anything.
This brings us the BS of the situation the absence policy.
Currently once you have passed probation (6 month) if you have 3 instances of absence in a 12 month period it’ll be a written warning a 4th is a final warning and a 5th will earn you the sack.
I have in the 12 months had covid 3 times and caught the winter flu twice and been off work for all of them. It doesn’t seem fair that i should potentially get “fired” for being ill when I’m trying to go into work and work is making me ill. Surely my work needs to take some responsibility.
What advice can you give me for this one oh glorious subreddit please???
