I had a meeting with my GM a couple days ago

It was fucking ridiculous. I showed up to work and my GM along with the assistant GM called me over. I was getting paid $12/hr with the arrangement that I would be getting paid $13/hr thirty days after I started working. That never happened so I contacted the assistant GM who told me it will totally be on the next paycheck. He never even told the GM. He just figured I wouldn’t make a fuss. So I contacted the GM directly resulting in this meeting. I sat across from them and the GM proceeds to tell me how they never promised me anything. That thirteen was what I bare minimum wanted to be paid and would not have taken the job without it. And then went on to tell me how I barely do my job, constantly standing around, not checking dates, etc. (I’m a cook by the way). This…

This list included things that applied to the kitchen and could not tell who was doing them. I am the most active in the kitchen, I check dates on my line, and I am the most efficient and best at presentation. The kitchen manager spends more time standing around than I do. Everyone on my line can’t move through tickets as efficiently as I can. So this is emotional manipulation. I’m sick of managers thinking they can emotionally blackmail me. I respond with that I actually do do these things and I rarely stand around-. I get cut off being told I definitely stand around all the time. They told me IF I make the improvements THEN they’ll consider putting in for a raise. A one dollar fucking raise.

I straight up said that I’ll be looking for a different job-. Cut off again. The GM responds “if you don’t want to work, that is your choice”. I was both stunned and confused. Turns out I was working for the manager that goes online and says no one wants to work anymore when no one wants to work for them. I was also going to use this to lead into putting in my two weeks. I then stated “how was I supposed to trust her given the reason we’re having this conversation”. She blew up about this tirade on trust saying how it was a big thing for her, she’d done nothing to lose my trust (fair because she never had it in the first place), and how I “had her word”. Exactly this wasn’t going to be in writing. This was supposed to be a meeting to keep me from acting up with zero intent of giving me anything I want. She then made me shake her hand and sent me back to work.

So I put in my two weeks notice that same day a few hours later. I walked in with interviews lined up. Never tolerate a boss that thinks you owe them something.

TL;DR: I had a meeting with my GM about the failure to increase my pay resulting in attempted emotional manipulation, a comment about how I don’t want to work anymore because I’m seeking new employment, and a rant about trust all over an additional one fucking dollar per hour. I quit.
