Fed contractor in Texas, land of the free /s
I got to work at 4:55, 5 minutes to start. Clocked in our phone time keeping app at like 4:57, which pushes it to 5:00. Saw we had actual work to do (the last 2 weeks we’ve been 100% out of work and have been getting paid to review training manuals). So I instantly got to work at like 4:58, signed out a bundle of work on a tracking log that includes the time, put 5:00pm just like everyone else who was in line. Tried finding a computer that worked when I got a text from my manager asking if I’m here. Told him yes. Told me to come to his office. Went there (5:15pm), and he tells me he’s docking me 15 minutes because he didn’t see me until now. Told him I clocked in the app at 5, and he said it doesn’t matter and he can change it.
We’ve had a verbal instruction starting 2 weeks ago to come see him when we get in the building because people have been clocking in and leaving. The last 2 mondays I’ve went it was for nothing as our time cards weren’t even ready that he hands us, so knowing we finally have shit to do, I wanted to get straight to work because we have strict quotas to meet.
As of writing I haven’t seen a modification in my clock in, I took some screenshots after he told me. I have been late to work once in the 6 months I’ve been here by 1 minute. Maybe he’s just bluffing but I’d like to know if I have any recourse if he ultimately does.
There’s a couple pieces of evidence that supporter me being there on time, my badge in, the work log, people seeing me. The $6 I’d lose is insignificant, but I’m a man of principle. I refuse to get fucked over for any amount, especially by work where there are dozens of people who do literally nothing all day, show up an hour late and disappear for hours at a time, gaming the system without any repercussions.
Edit: and yes when I get home tonight I’ll be back on the job market. I’m not a child and I’m not going to put up with this stupid bullshit
