So I’m an assistant manager for a “record store” that also sells anime memorabilia. On January 1, Illinois minimum wage went up from $12 to $13. I, as a salaried full time manager, technically only make $15.38 per hour and the key holders now make $14 an hour. When I asked my DM if mine and the store manager’s wages were going to be adjusted, we were told no. I only make half time as “overtime” pay, not time and a half. The store manager doesn’t even get OT period. We’re also forced to sell our store’s subscription discount program to every person over the age of 18 paying with a credit card and (shocker) we aren’t hitting goal because no one wants to pay $12 per month to save 10% on their purchases. I’m also moving back home to live with my parents because my rent is jumping from $1075 to $1215 and $478 per week doesn’t cover rent and utilities. I was so excited to start working for this company, but after being with them 7 months and experiencing all the bs they put us through (and literally causing myself to become extremely ill just this past week from stress), I’ve been applying to new jobs and I’m trying to leave asap.
