This happened years ago when I was managing at a Wendy’s franchise. This franchise owned 4 locations. I started working at one that was about 25-30 minutes from my place and worked there for for over a year, 9-10 months of which fell under the same calendar year. Later I was transferred to a location about an hour from my place and given a slight raise that they made sure I understood was to compensate for travel.
The original store I was at was the only store that made bonus’ that year. I was not given the bonus but other managers who worked there during that year were given prorated bonus’ for the amount of time they worked at that store.
Roughly a week before I was due for my evaluation and raise, I was told that the owners had paused raises until “all of the stores were doing better,” no details, just an open ended doing better. I told my boss that my evaluation and raise were supposed to be next week and he replied that “this was effecting him too.” To which I responded that he had just gotten his 2 weeks prior to this announcement.
I went 2 years at that company with no raises other than the one for travel expenses.
A few months later I just wrote on the calendar in the office, which day would be my last day. No one ever even tried to talk to me about why I was leaving, just took me off the schedule.
