Hello all. So for a little backstory, I recently started a new job, I've already received my first paycheck, and my salary is based on my years of experience.
This week I was sent some last paperwork to sign from my new HR, and the paperwork said that I needed to send the enclosed form to my previous job to verify my years of experience or what I'm currently being paid would be lowered(!). I emailed new HR to ask when they needed the form, and also to ask the obvious question, “Wasn't my previous experience already verified before you started paying me based on my experience?”
New HR told me they DIDN'T verify my previous experience, and even asked me “what made you believe we verified your experience before you started work?”. I told them that that was normally what happens. They told me that they based my salary on “my word” but now they need to verify my previous experience or that my salary would be affected.
They then told me that I needed to tell my previous job that “my salary is in jeopardy” so that my previous job will be motivated to turn in the form on time!
What gets me about all of this is that I had to provide references (one of which I worked with for all theyears I listed) and go through a multiple weeks-long background check to even get this job, and New HR could have verified my previous employment start and end dates with a simple phone call or email, like 99% of other jobs do. I feel like I'm having to do New HR's job and I'm being threatened if I don't do their job for them.
