rant but also asking for advice
tldr: my boss called all of us employees into a meeting today. she starts ranting because an employee just quit. then she basically tells us receptionists that we have too much down time and should clean/organize more.
rant about employee quitting if you're curious: friday, i noticed something wrong with the booking site and notified my boss. she said she'd look into it but never did i guess. saturday, the mistake comes to light and customers are upset, she asks another employee to work later to cover for her mistake. the employee says no because she has an event and my boss gets angry and cusses. then the employee quits and now we get called into this meeting the next day.
when i get there, she's complaining about the employee and the whole situation even though it's her own fault. then she starts saying that us receptionists should clean more and we have too much sitting time. she's justifying this by saying she never sat when she worked at burger king or a chrysler plant . also said that we agreed to this when applying. this just isn't true as i walked in and was pretty much hired on the spot and there was no conract, so I didn't know cleaning was a part of the job until i was already hired and training and i never knew the extent of cleaning we're expected to do until today. she says we have to vacuum when opening, sweep during the day, mop the whole place after closing, clean tools, the bathroom, take out trash, laundry and folding, etc. and she says we agreed to light cleaning with the job. she even used the words we can organize things to “occupy our boredom” first of all, since when is mopping “light cleaning”? keep in mind we have no janitor or cleaning crew there so clearly she's trying to pull a fast one and get the receptionists to do all the cleaning. i don't make $10/hr (as of jan 1st, below minimum wage in my state ) as a receptionist to be a cleaning person. i'd rather get hired as a janitor and make 15. is the only solution to quit or can i report this behavior
