So the title is fairly self explanatory, my wife suffered a major family bereavement and I travelled with my wife to the hospital and then to her relatives some distance from home yesterday night/early this morning.
Around 8am I called my work, a job I started about a month ago and I explained to my supervisor what had happened, that I wouldn't be in today but that I would travelling back later today and so would be in work tomorrow, my supervisor offered her condolences and took my number on case a manager needed to call me later.
At wound 4pm I see an email has come through from my manager informing me that I have failed my probation and my employment is terminated because I 'did meet company standards'…
Company standards must mean leaving your spouse to mourn alone then, and for that matter I had also known the deceased for a decade too.
In happier news though, 2 minutes after receiving this email I received a phone call informing me I had been selected for a job I interviewed for weeks ago that I much preferred and didn't really believe I would be considered for so ultimately my manager saved me writing a resignation letter.
