I’ve been really trying to come up with a plan to start a small community. The systemic issues in the US seem insurmountable. My issue is that I do not want to be a person “in charge” or “in power” I would like to be an organizer, but have people generally police themselves and do their part. Do you think it is naive to think there are other like-minded people who would actually carry their weight? Or do you think that people would shirk their share of responsibility and it turn into some Animal Farm-esque shit show?
Also, if you are a person who would bring a skill (and unfortunately some savings to contribute to property taxes) what would you want your community to have? Would it be important to have access to non-communal accommodations like health insurance or would you prefer to have a doctor on the commune who contributes through their skill and expertise, for example. Additionally, would you consider being a person who potentially works for a company remotely in the community, and your contribution could be most of your salary toward community needs? Would you, as this person, feel like this sacrifice of your time/still participating in a capitalist system be worth the greater purpose?
