The individual who did my physical works for the same medical provider I have had all my ER visits at. Otherwise, there is no way he would have had access to my medical history this morning.
I went to a pre-employment physical. I am about to start a job as a receptionist at a pediatric office. The company had me fill out forms and they asked my medical history before I went to see the physician.
I went for the physical. I do have a history of Epilepsy, since childhood, which is very well controlled with medication. I wrote this on the form and brought my anti seizure medication with me, as requested.
During the physical, the CRNP (I later found out) said he was concerned for my seizure disorder and that I would need to come back with a form from my Neurologist stating I was cleared for work. I told him that was fine.
He went to grab the form and was gone for quite some time.
He came back into the room and sat back down admitting he just pulled my full ER discharge summary from years back during Covid. He said he was concerned with the amount of seizures I had during that time during which I was consuming more alcohol. I lost my job during Covid and medication. He wanted a full explanation as to if I was ever in rehab, if I was still drinking, and if I had a problem.
He said he checked my BAC levels for those ER visits. He said he “had to mention it”. Then he said my employment was “on hold” because he won't sign the forms until my Neurologist does.
Since the physical took place at the same company (a satellite location in a different city) he was able to pull my entire hospital chart from another hospital and question my medical history.
I now do not want to work for the company considering this is probably acceptable behavior and I can't even question it. Is this allowed?
