Alright so here goes:
I currently work for a large corporation that is very well known. I'm not sure a hostile environment suit would work but here's what I have so far.
During a Christmas outing my team had a public “prayer” where we blessed the food. I was the only one (as a non Christian) that did not participate. This left me feeling left out and honestly concerned my coworkers would treat me differently for being different.
I am the only male in my team, and the only white person. While this isn't a problem, I'm constantly subjected to hearing about baby daddies and how “all men” are like this. (keep in mind, I have no children, have never gotten a girl pregnant so I definitely don't fit this stereotype). I've also been called a “big man” by coworkers even though I am very small, and had comments made regarding my height.
As a side note to this point – I also have noticed that the entire management team in my site is female, and about 90% of the staff or more in my department are female. I'm not saying there are sexist hiring practices going on but…
Finally,
As the only male on the team I'm afraid to mention these things to HR. If I say anything, even anonymously, it will be instantly obvious to my manager who it is. As I have anxiety surrounding being retaliated against (it's happened in the past) – is there any way to build a hostile environment case WITHOUT involving my hr department?
Thanks for the input!
