Negotiation Works

After not receiving a raise in 2022, I was adamant about getting one heading into 2023. Working in sales, I helped craft the comp plans for my team. When I showed the math to my leadership, I called out a raise for myself. After all, we exceeded all team sales goals in 2021 and then our sales goals were doubled in 2022, and we exceeded those. In a side conversation, I also presented why I should get my annual bonus despite the team not hitting our goals. Largely, it was because of customer revenue officially coming off the books despite the fact that they left us in 2020. I had proposed that I get the full bonus plus a 7% increase in salary. My leadership counterproposal: 50% of the bonus and a 14% raise. With the bonus structure, it ends up being a 17% increase. Roughly $32,500 extra.
