I recently had a discussion with a friend and need a mirror.
Me and my friend both hate working. They're trying to retire early together with their partner and are working towards FIRE (fat FIRE if anyones interested). Both have really well off parents. They do agree that in an ideal world nobody would be obligated to work.
I don't like working either and am interested in FIRE but know it won't probably happen anytime soon. Income wise we would probably be in the upper middle class category but don't want to succumb to lifestyle inflation. Because my partner and I are pretty handy we tend to do a lot of work around the house ourselves. We only hire people for specialized things like an electrician. I don't feel comfortable hiring people for something I should learn to do myself.
My friend on the other hand doesn't want to do anything or learn anything and just wants to hire people for the smallest things. Like hanging up a shelf. A cleaner because they can't be assed to clean.
I don't feel it's fair/ethical to expect others to labour for you if you don't want to work yourself.
They feel it is as long as your paying them (they have complained before how much labour costs) it's fair.
What do you think?
If we don't (want to) work should we even expect others to?
