Manager and senior management upset I missed training

Please tell me if I’m being silly. I work part-time and had to cover for my manager for 3 months (without extra pay). As a ‘reward’ they put me on development training (2 half day workshops a month) and a committee (all day once a month). If you miss the first workshop then you’re out of the development programme. I was off sick so couldn’t attend and now my manager was upset and grilled me on the type of sickness I had. I feel awful but I’ve worked so many hours for my team and they’re making me feel like I’ve missed a great opportunity. Am I just being silly for feeling guilty?
