So I (23m) worked for this office for just under a year. I was often praised for how well I did my job and improving processes for my coworkers; made a lot of processes digital, etc. I was a pretty decent employee and had no qualms with any coworkers.
One day in November I was pulled into a meeting at 4:00pm (NEVER a good sign). And in this meeting I was told. “We think you’re a great fit for the company, but not a good fit for your position.” by my manager and her boss. And was told that I was being terminated by January. They gave ME a 60 days notice of termination! I asked why I was being fired multiple times and only got the vague “The position just doesn’t fit you anymore.”
Now I’d been thinking that it was just some standard firing or cutback. But I saw my job posted on Indeed within a month, which made it much more suspicious to me. Everyone else was saying it was discriminatory but maybe I was just in denial.
The reason people are saying it’s discriminatory is that I got married to my husband the week before that meeting, and since my job shared a parking lot with the courthouse, we just got married in the shared parking lot.
I’m in Georgia USA, am at-will state unfortunately.
Was I fired for marrying a man?
TL;DR: I (23m) think I was fired because I married a man in front of my workplace, and they couldn’t give me a reason.
