Working for a dumb manager is so frustrating.

I just need to vent. I do data analytics for a fast growing fintech company. I basically solve math puzzles all day and I actually enjoy it. I'm the lead performer on my team even though I don't work that hard, mostly because the company likes to hire people who are barely qualified. I was also barely qualified when I started but I learn very quickly. Anyway my old boss left a few months ago and they wanted me to replace her, but I'm not always great with people skills. Managing people isn't my strength, and I'd rather solve complex technical problems than try to get others to perform well. Now I'm regretting it.

My new boss isn't dumb but he isn't half as smart as he thinks he is. He came from another department and has put almost no effort into learning this new role. He keeps coming up with really dumb ways to “improve” our work processes, but really they just demonstrate that he doesn't understand the job. And most frustrating, when I tell him “hey your plan has these issues and is likely to cause problems with so and so client” he just brushes me off like he knows better.

And before you all say I should go somewhere else, I really do like my job, and that's a first for me, which makes it hard to leave. Plus it's full remote which has allowed me to travel more than I ever have. I can't help but feel like I'm just going to have to keep my head down and hope he doesn't do anything that really messes shit up.
