I got a call at 5:15pm to cover an emergency shift that started at 5pm. I was told the other two employees had called off at the last moment and I was their last chance to get it covered. I was asked to run straight there and start ASAP. I arrived at 5:45 and clocked in. Later in the night I found out the shift was until 8am, a 15 hour shift I was covering 14 of. I figured it would be good OT, so no big deal. At the end of my shift no one arrived to relieve me. I was told that the place had to have someone there at all times and the company would be fined if the post was found down. I also had keys to the property I didn't feel I should be taking home. 8am came and no one showed. I called my super, went to VM. I called the office, went to VM. I called every number I had and left messages with no call back until about 8:30. They told me no one was showing and I could just leave and take the keys. Come pay day I get my check and find that they rounded my start time to 6pm, though the shift started at 5 and I ran in as a favor to cover it. They cut my time off at 8am, the time I was supposed to be off, even though I had to wait 30 minutes to get a hold of someone. And, no overtime. I spoke with HR and they informed me that since it was an overnight shift the new day started at midnight and therefore did not count as OT. They refused to discus the missing time. Though minimal, when added to no OT for working 14 hours straight, I consider it an issue. I'm never doing them another favor or working an overnight shift that will go over 8 hours.
