Starting your career

This is a question I wanna ask the seasoned warriors of this sub. I’m a 21 year old working guy who’s earning relatively aight money as an executive. Recently my CEO berated me on the fact that I don’t have the drive and passion they’re looking for in a young worker and that I’m in “retirement” mode. Ofc me being me said I quit immediately. This got me thinking… is there really no way but to let go of life in the starting of your career to get ahead? Or is that just an agenda for exploitation. I ask this not as someone who hates work or anything but as someone who’s tired of 60 hour work weeks and burnt out at 21.
