Don’t fall for the bonus trap

Been working for 30 years now, and the one thing I haven't seen mentioned here… In companies which promise bonuses and pay rises, work out what the actual value is. For example getting a 5k bonus is lovely, but if you are doing 7k worth of overtime, you're working for free, you're basically giving your company owners or your boss free work. If getting a pay rise requires you doing overtime, then work out what your hourly rate is based on your actual salary, and what it will be after the raise… Is it really worth going above and beyond? Usually job hopping works much much better than doing anything extra. Giving 75% is more likely to result in a promotion than giving 110%. Know your worth, and don't give anything away for free!!!
