This may not be directly related to antiwork, but it's income tax related, which comes from working. Nonetheless, I just need to rant about taxes.
Last year, I changed jobs twice, with a brief contract stint in-between. My income increased by a lot compared to the job I had at the beginning of the year. My husband has been at the same job for about two years and also gets paid well.
Every year, for the last four years at least, we have gone from getting a refund to owing. We owed a lot for 2021, but that pales in comparison to 2022! I don't understand it.
My husband used TurboTax to see what our tax situation is. We plan to actually see a tax preparer because idk if what TurboTax is saying is correct. Right now, we owe over $4k!!
It's not enough that 22% of my pay gets taken out every paycheck, but then they gouge more out every year. Taxes are a fucking racket.
I am all in support for social programs, helping the homeless, etc. But I know that my taxes aren't helping with things like that. It's so frustrating that our money gets squandered and the super rich don't even pitch in.
I am making more than I ever have and I feel grateful for the extra money so I can have a savings account and afford food, but I still feel like regardless of my income, I can't keep up. Inflation has made it harder to get ahead financially.
I really don't want to pay this damn tax bill! Wtf?! Neither my husband nor I claim any exemptions.
