New position, no salary range. Advice?

I interviewed for a job with no salary range. This is a little out of the normal for what I'd interview for, but I figured I'd try. It was marketed as a “mid-senior level” position. The job involves working with directors of each franchise of a mental healthcare agency. They asked what I'd want for a salary, and I gave them an estimate of $50-55k. I genuinely didn't know what an appropriate amount would be, so I didn't want to overshoot. Long story short, I just had a phone call with the hiring director for the position, my potential boss. They hired someone for the position and said they'd like to create a new position for me since they believed that previous position was “beneath my skill-level”. They said they'd be able to pay me what I stated during the initial interview. They proceeded to tell me all the additional…

I interviewed for a job with no salary range. This is a little out of the normal for what I'd interview for, but I figured I'd try. It was marketed as a “mid-senior level” position.

They proceeded to tell me all the additional responsibilities, including now working hybrid (previously was remote only) and traveling onsite to any state needed within the US, about 4x a month, 2-3 days at a time. They ended it with saying they will definitely be able to match what I'm asking for.

They said they'll finish creating the position and send it to get approved. It's a new company, about 7 years old, so I haven't seen what a position like this would pay. This title involves the vague term of outreach, so it's hard to know what should be expected for pay.

  1. I think I'm getting low-balled big time, and it's partially my fault because I'm not assertive.
  2. When should I ask for more money- before she submits the position request (with proposed budget) or when she comes to me with a written offer?
  3. How do I know what a role like this should be paying?

TLDR: What to do when no salary range is given and you want to ensure you're being compensated fairly?
