How to handle distant employee after performance review?

So I recently gave a poor performance review to an employee, and he is since working much faster (we started a deadline and daily check-in system), but has become much more distant. He always eats with the team, and now claims he has to go somewhere on his lunch break. He usually suggests coffee with me in the morning and has abruptly stopped. It seems like he is avoiding me and sitting as far away as possible from me in the office. He has also abruptly stopped dressing up for work (it’s not compulsory but he has usually come to the office in a suit). When I talk to him he is still polite however. How would you handle this?
