Capitalism Doesn’t Reward Your Loyalty

We have all seen the multitudes of articles, blaming the workers of today for constant job hopping and our unwillingness to settle down with a company and work for the long haul. Well fuck that. The name of the game is capitalism, and jobs are no different. Capitalism in general does not reward your loyalty. How many times has a cell phone carrier offered you a sweetheart deal to jump ship? How many subscriptions offer free months to get you on board or to switch? How many credit cards offer special rates to get you to transfer balances? Capitalism rewards those who jump around and take advantage of opportunities. If anything, that is the competitive spirit of what capitalism should be. Complacency is rarely rewarded, and companies do better when customers stick around and they no longer have to offer deals to attract them. The job market is no different.…

How many subscriptions offer free months to get you on board or to switch? How many credit cards offer special rates to get you to transfer balances?

Capitalism rewards those who jump around and take advantage of opportunities. If anything, that is the competitive spirit of what capitalism should be. Complacency is rarely rewarded, and companies do better when customers stick around and they no longer have to offer deals to attract them. The job market is no different. There is no shame in job hopping for better prospects and jobs are just upset that they cannot take advantage of workers who choose to stick around.
