Corporate personality test meant to be a “development tool,” used against me in a salary negotiation

I started this job a year and a half ago in a low level management position and was asked to complete a corporate management style personality test. The test evaluates your personality with a corporate mindset, and compares your scores to the scores of other successful executives in the company. The test was explained to me as a tool they can use to develop the parts of my personality that need to be improved relative to the scores of the executives.

Super brain dead way of thinking, but I needed the job.

A year and a half later, the test has been forgotten about, and has not been used to develop the “lacking” parts of my personality.

For the last week, I have been negotiating for a higher salary. I just came out of my 3rd meeting regarding my salary. The meeting started out with 2 of my bosses pulling out the personality test and going over my top 5 weaknesses. This was immediately followed by them offering me a lower number than what I had asked.

I asked if they had used the personality test to place my salary valuation at a lower number, and they said no, it was just to gain a better understanding of who they were committing to. I’ve worked there for a year and a half.

I needed to vent about this, thank you for the read and giving me the space! I’ve started looking for new work.
